did you know being a neurotic woman is a full time profession?

So as the end of the year arrives I have finished my textile course project for the first term. A theme of 'identity revealed through destruction' emerged and I discovered the beauty of decay. I really enjoyed the psychological process of revealing hidden layers and the wonky-happy accidents that sometimes occurred with it.

I used a mix of used papers and reapproriated fabrics for my work. I love the idea that the thoughts of the fabric's previous owners have remained in the thread, and have somehow interweaved with my thoughts (I have often wondered if our thoughts leave echos in the objects we use ...). Words from an old and absurd book, A Womens Best Years, also provided me with humour and inspiration throughout the term.

I ended with three final pieces, I like their textured chaos and psychotic colours. I wondered if they were maps to travail the unconscious. Or maybe deep sea trawler nets - gathering up wreckage of the psyche... There is a part of me that knows what they are, but she hasn't told me yet...

....death, construction, destruction, formation, creation, fear
the search for the 'owl'
partial truths, half lies, emptiness, unhinged neurosis, hunger
and 13 dreams
all lay wrapped up in the fabric
like some kind of sleepy moth awaiting its liberation....
